Police in Bungoma have nabbed a lorry carrying 120 bags of top-dressing fertiliser suspected to be fake.

Bungoma OCPD Wilson Muraya on Sunday said they received reports of a fertilizer consignment being repackaged at one of the local fuel stations.

He said police intercepted the lorry on its way to distribute the fertiliser to farmers in different sub-counties.

Muraya said the 120 bags had County Government of Bungoma branding.

“We have impounded it so that officials from the Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) can examine it to determine its authenticity and fitness for use,” said the police boss.

Bungoma Senator David Wakoli urged the affected farmers to present documents concerning the procured fertilizer for investigations.

“The County Executive Committee member for Finance told me they were not aware there was a consignment of fertiliser being delivered on Saturday but acknowledged complaints from farmers who received damp fertiliser,” the senator said.
