3 killed, one injured after quarry collapses in Meru

Three people died and another was seriously injured on Tuesday morning after walls of a quarry caved in on them at the border of  Tharaka Nithi and Meru Counties.

The four were reportedly excavating stones at Mutonga Quarry when the incident occurred.

Red Cross officials said it could not be immediately established how many workers were at the quarry when the incident occurred.

Police and rescue teams have since been deployed to the scene.

Bodies of the deceased were taken to St Anne’s Hospital in Igoji while the injured worker was admitted at Meru County Teaching and Referral Hospital.
