Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have arrested 5 people over a Ksh.2.9 million fake gold fraud in Karen, Nairobi County.

The five allegedly defrauded a Korean of the money while purporting to sell him gold bars using a company under the name Ekweme Enterprises, a Tuesday report by the DCI says.

Robinson Gitau, Livai Kombo, Fatuma Mohammed, Eva Kimotho, together with the Cameroonian identified as Utia Kugi, are said to have used accomplices to direct Song Sung to their supposed company premises in the upmarket neighborhood where he was shown him the purported gold bars.

The accomplices afterwards made away with the money Sung offered for the bars, where he raised an alarm to the police.

“After completing their initial investigations, serious crimes detectives decoyed the five suspects into a snare and arrested all of them,” DCI states.

Steel boxes of the fake gold bars were recovered in the incident, while the five are in police custody awaiting arraignment.
