Social impact company 4Life Solutions has announced a $3.2 million (approx. Ksh.413 million) investment to expand its safe water access programs across Africa, reinforcing Kenya as the central hub for its operations.

The investment, made since 2022, will be driven from the company’s Nairobi office as it scales efforts to tackle the continent’s clean water crisis.

The milestone was unveiled at a high-profile event at the Danish Ambassador’s residence in Nairobi, where corporate leaders, policymakers, and development partners convened to explore collaborative solutions for clean drinking water.

With 41% of Kenyans still lacking access to clean drinking water and 25% of African households relying on firewood to boil water - an unsustainable and hazardous practice - 4Life Solutions is positioning itself as a key player in bridging the gap through its innovative SaWa technology.

The solar-powered water purification system, verified by the World Health Organization (WHO), eliminates 99.99% of waterborne pathogens, providing a safe and affordable alternative to traditional purification methods.

“This investment is a testament to our confidence in Africa’s potential and our commitment to ensuring clean drinking water is a fundamental right,” said Annemette Faerch, Chairperson of 4Life Solutions.

“Over the past two years, we have shifted the vast majority of our operations to Kenya, establishing a 25-person office, a warehouse, and a laboratory at the Nairobi Gate Industrial Park.”

The expansion underscores the crucial role of partnerships in addressing Africa’s water crisis. 4Life Solutions has already signed agreements with several county governments and is engaging with the national government, NGOs, and private investors to accelerate the adoption of its solutions.

One of its most successful initiatives is a peer-to-peer sales model in partnership with Maendeleo Ya Wanawake Organization (MYWO), empowering women to distribute SaWa Cans.

So far, this initiative has delivered clean water to 8,000 households, with women earning up to Ksh.300 per sale.

Caroline Githinji, Managing Director, Africa, emphasized the power of collaboration in driving impact: “We wouldn’t have been able to reach over 390,000 households across Africa without the deep partnerships we’ve built with NGOs, community health networks, and social enterprises.”

The Danish government, through its Africa’s Century Strategy, reaffirmed its commitment to supporting sustainable development on the continent.

Hosting the event, Danish Ambassador Stephan Schønemann lauded 4Life Solutions’ efforts, stating, “This investment aligns with Denmark’s vision for Africa—where business, science, and development converge to create real, lasting change.”
