The first leg of the 2026 Athletics Kenya track and field circuit, which was initially set for a two-day competition (Friday and Saturday) this weekend in Mumias, has been rescheduled to a one-day event on Saturday.

‎‎Despite the date change, the Mumias Sports Complex remains the launch pad for an electrifying start to Kenya’s 2026 athletics calendar.

‎In a statement released by the federation, AK explained that the adjustment was made owing to unavoidable circumstances.

‎“Due to unavoidable circumstances, the 1st AK Track and Field Weekend Meet that was set to be held at the Mumias Sports Complex on November 7 and 8, 2025, will now only be held on November 8th at the same venue,” the statement read.

‎Athletes are required to collect their bib numbers at Mumias Complex Primary School on Friday, November 7, starting at 9:00 a.m.

‎“Participating athletes are requested to collect their running numbers on Friday, November 7th, 2025, at the Mumias Complex Primary School starting from 9:00 a.m.”

‎AK also extended best wishes to competitors gearing up for the curtain-raiser, while apologising for the inconvenience caused by the change in schedule.

‎“We apologise for any inconveniences that this change might have caused and wish athletes all the best as they prepare to participate in the meet.”

‎Following the Mumias opener, the circuit will shift to Thika Stadium on January 16-17, before heading to Kapsabet Stadium on March 14-16 and wrapping up the open meetings at Afraha Stadium on March 27-28.

‎In an exciting twist, the 2026 season will now feature two new premium invitation-only meets.

‎The first meet set for May 8-9 will be held at the Nyayo national stadium and the other at the Ulinzi Sports Complex on May 29-30
