Ingwe had taken the lead in the 59th minute, only to spectacularly fall apart in the final stretch of the match, conceding four goals in a breathtaking 20-minute collapse that left their title ambitions in serious doubt.
Following the defeat Ambani to the club’s fans acknowledging the scale of the loss and took responsibility on behalf of the club.
"On behalf of the team, I apologise for yesterday's heavy loss," Ambani said, while also praising supporters who turned up in numbers and stayed until the final whistle.
The chairman pointed to an injury crisis as a contributing factor, revealing that four key players — Humprey Katasi, Kayci Odhiambo, Emmanuel Lwangu, and Brian Nyongesa — were all unavailable for the fixture.
However, Ambani stopped short of using the absences as a full excuse, noting that the club had signed players precisely to provide cover in such situations.
"Injuries are not an excuse," he said. "The club signed players who are expected to step up when called upon."
Ambani was candid about the team's attacking struggles, describing the front line as toothless against Mathare, and promised that corrective measures were already being put in place. He also signaled that the club would be looking to bolster its squad depth to avoid a repeat of the situation.
"We will need to strengthen our squad to have enough squad depth in future," he said.
Despite the chastening result, the chairman urged fans to remain behind the team, reminding them that their support is most critical in difficult moments.
"As a fan, remember that the club needs you most in times like this," Ambani said, adding that the focus had already shifted to the next match.
AFC Leopards, who entered the season with league title ambitions, will now be under intense pressure to arrest their slide and restore confidence among a fanbase that has grown increasingly anxious about the team's recent performances.
