KCB RFC head coach Andrew Amonde struck a reflective tone after his side battled to a crucial 41–10 bonus-point victory over Kisumu RFC in their second fixture of the 2025/26 Kenya Cup season.

Although the final scoreline suggested a comfortable win, Amonde noted that the match at Jomo Kenyatta Stadium in Kisumu exposed early nerves and moments of inconsistency within his squad.

With new combinations still settling in, the former Kenya Sevens captain emphasized the need for quicker adaptation and greater consistency going forward.

“This was our first away game, and you could see how the nerves affected the players. It’s about settling early, getting our points, and working from the word go until we find our rhythm,” Amonde said. “We also need to find the right blend of players who can step up when our senior guys are missing. Basically, we need consistency in what we do, faster learning, and better execution in the coming games.”

Despite praising his team’s resilience, Amonde challenged his players to sharpen their starts as the season begins to take shape. After two rounds, four teams remain unbeaten: Menengai Oilers, Kabras Sugar, KCB Rugby, and Strathmore Leos—all tied on 10 points, separated only by point difference.

“There are still many things we need to change. We have to go back to the drawing board, make adjustments, and see how we can improve as a team,” Amonde added. “There’s a lot for the young players to learn, but it’s part of the process. We need everyone on the same page heading into the weekend, especially with new faces adapting to our structures. Our players must step up earlier.”

KCB will look to extend their unbeaten run when they return home for Round Three.

Menengai Oilers currently top the standings with a massive +151 point difference after scoring 173 points and conceding just 22 in their opening two matches. Kabras Sugar follow with +119, while KCB sit third on +113. Strathmore Leos round off the unbeaten group with a +4 differential.

Kenya Harlequin occupy fifth place with nine points, having won twice but missing out on a bonus point. Nondescript RFC are sixth with six points from a win and a losing bonus. KU Blak Blad sit seventh on five points, while Nakuru RFC are eighth with a single point from two losses.

Kisumu RFC, MMUST, Daystar Falcons and Impala RFC are still chasing their first points of the campaign after difficult starts.
