'Asleep at the wheel!' Former AG Muturi blasts gov't for handing foreigners Kenyan passports

Musa, a senior Rapid Support Forces (RSF) logistics operative, is under sanction by the United States Treasury's Office of Foreign Assets Control and the European Union. 

Addressing residents in Nakuru County on Friday, Muturi questioned whether President William Ruto was informed of the matter by the National Intelligence Service (NIS), citing that the contrary could spell security lapses. 

"You are briefed daily by the National Intelligence Service (NIS). So I ask, did the NIS inform you that individuals linked to a foreign armed conflict were being processed for Kenyan passports?" Muturi posed.

"If they did not inform you, then we are staring at something even more frightening, that our intelligence services are either compromised, captured, or asleep at the wheel."

Muturi called for an immediate suspension and investigation of all officers involved, a full public disclosure of all passports issued under the arrangement and a parliamentary inquiry to establish whether executive authority was abused. 

He added that the government should protect its citizens by ensuring that the country doesn't become a laundering ground for 'international actors seeking legitimacy.'

Muturi's remarks come amid allegations of the government dishing out passports to foreign individuals for what can only be perceived as private and personal purposes.

Former Chief Justice David Maraga, in a post on his official X account, also condemned the issuance of passports to individuals linked to Sudan’s conflict, calling for their immediate revocation.

The government is yet to respond to the matter.
