BAT Kenya has announced the appointment of Sidney Wafula as the company’s Managing Director, effective June 16, 2026, as part of its executive leadership succession plan.

Wafula is set to succeed Crispin Achola, who will step down on June 15, 2026, to pursue opportunities outside the BAT Group after a five-and-a-half-year tenure.

Annoucing the changes, the company noted that Achola, who became Managing Director in January 2021, led the company through a period of significant market complexity and regulatory evolution, strengthening operational resilience, commercial execution, and long-term competitiveness.

Reflecting on his tenure, Achola said, “It has been an honour to lead BAT Kenya and to work alongside a talented and dedicated team to deliver historical results. I am proud of what we have achieved together — strengthening our fundamentals, delivering shareholder value, and positioning the business for continued success.”

Sidney Wafula, currently Finance Director for BAT Sub-Saharan Africa, brings extensive experience across the BAT Group, having joined BAT Kenya in 2006 as Head of Audit. He has held senior leadership positions across West Africa, Egypt, Southern Africa, and East and Central Africa, providing him with broad expertise in business strategy, financial and operational performance, and team leadership across diverse markets.

In the changes, Catherine Chepkong’a has been appointed Finance Director, effective April 1, 2026, succeeding Philemon Kipkemoi, who will step down on March 31, 2026, after a distinguished 19-year career with the company. Kipkemoi played a pivotal role in delivering strong financial performance, sustaining shareholder value growth, and strengthening financial governance.

“It has been a privilege to serve this great organization, and I am proud that together we have consistently delivered shareholder value. I leave behind an empowered organisation, ready to drive for greater success,” Philemon Kipkemoi commented.

Catherine Chepkong’a, who joined the BAT Group in 2012, brings multi-market finance leadership experience, having held strategic roles across East Africa, Uganda, the Horn of Africa, and the Indian Ocean Islands. She also serves as a Trustee of the BAT Kenya Staff Provident Fund.

Commenting on the leadership changes, BAT Kenya Board Chair Rita Kavashe said, “The board thanks both Crispin and Philemon for their leadership, professionalism, and substantial contribution to the Company’s growth and transformation agenda.

These changes represent the Company’s long-term succession planning and reflect a strong talent pipeline within the organisation. At the same time, we are delighted to welcome Sidney and Catherine to the leadership of the company and look forward to close collaboration in our pursuit of delivering transformation in our business that is anchored on our vision of delivering A Better Tomorrow, Rita added.
