Kenyans have reported receiving suspicious messages asking them to pay fines for traffic offences.

In text messages, the scammers have been directing Kenyans to pay fines through sites cloning the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) websites. The fake websites are meant to clone the original NTSA website, https://www.ntsa.go.ke/

NTSA had earlier issued a cautionary alert to Kenyans who reported receiving messages that led them to a website with the domain https://ntsca.cc, which is not affiliated to the transport regulator.

“We have received reports of fraudsters sending SMS messages to members of the public, urging them to pay alleged traffic violation fines through a specified link by a deadline,” NTSA said in a statement on December 18, 2025.

The authority further stated that it is collaborating with relevant investigative agencies to address the issue.

Citizen Digital has observed that a new domain has since cropped up, https://ntsago.help/ke.

“[NTSA] Warning: You have multiple outstanding traffic fines. Please take immediate action or you may face legal action and late fees,” reads a suspicious message sent to a driver.

The authority has warned Kenyans who receive the suspicious messages to avoid clicking any links in the SMS, refrain from responding to the message, and never make payments through the platform.

“If you have already done so, contact your bank immediately to block or reverse the transaction,” NTSA further urged anyone who received the messages to delete them.
