Stars assistant coach Tom Juma has hailed his players for their resilience
following a hard-fought 1-0 victory over rivals Darajani Gogo in the Kibera
derby played on Saturday in the FKF National Super League.
Speaking to Citizen Digital, Juma described the derby as a tough contest but
commended his players for their determination, particularly after the team was
reduced to 10 men following a red card incident during the encounter.
Despite the numerical disadvantage,
Kibera Black Stars managed to stay organized and disciplined throughout the
match, eventually securing a crucial victory that delighted their supporters.
“The match was very difficult, everything
went against us but despite the odds…the red card and penalty, even the weather
and officiating, we managed to register an important win. That makes it even
more special,” Juma said.
New signing Darryl Odhiambo also shared
his excitement after featuring in the fiercely contested derby for the first
time since joining Kibera Black Stars. The midfielder expressed gratitude to
the technical bench for trusting him with starting roles in two consecutive
matches.
Odhiambo noted that the team’s defensive discipline has been key, with
Kibera managing to keep clean sheets in both games he has started.
“I’m
happy to have played in my first Kibera derby. I want to thank the coach for
believing in me and giving me the chance to start in two matches in a row. We’ve managed to keep clean sheets, which is
very encouraging for the team,” he said.
The victory provides a significant boost
to Kibera Black Stars’
league campaign. The side now sits eighth on the table with 36 points,
strengthening their push for a stronger finish in the second tier league.
Meanwhile, Darajani Gogo remain in the
lower end of the standings, occupying 16th position with 22 points, as they
continue their battle to move away from the relegation zone.
For Kibera Black Stars, the derby triumph
not only brought local bragging rights but also injected renewed confidence
