Residents of Karima-Njuki village in Kariti Ward, Ndia Sub-county, Kirinyaga County, were left in shock after the body of a 32-year-old man was discovered in a river.

According to Maina Kariuki, a resident, the body was first spotted by his grandson while he was herding livestock near the river.

The boy raised the alarm, prompting villagers and local leaders to rush to the scene.

Curious residents gathered along the riverbank, initially unsure of the victim’s identity.

“We are here to see who is in the river. It is not yet clear whether it is a man or a woman. We are waiting for the police to come,” said Mercy Wambui.

Police later confirmed that the deceased was not from the area but from Laikipia West.

Residents suspect the body may have been dumped in the Ragati River along the Sagana-Karatina road. “The man's body was fully clothed,” said Mwangi Wagoco.

The incident has raised concern among locals over a growing trend of bodies being recovered from rivers in Kirinyaga County, often belonging to people from other regions.

On March 28, 2026, another body was recovered from the Thiba River under a bridge near Ngurubani. Authorities later established that the deceased was from Naromoru.

The body of the latest victim has been moved to Kerugoya Hospital mortuary pending identification by family members.
