A sombre mood has engulfed Sosik Village in Bomet County after a woman allegedly locked her two young children inside their house last night and set it on fire.

According to Sotik Sub-County Police Commander Sammy Choge, the suspect, identified as Brenda Chelangat Cheruiyot, 40, allegedly returned home, found her two children—Enock Kiptoo, 3, and Aron Kipkirui, 6—inside the house, locked the door, and set the house ablaze before fleeing the scene.

Neighbours who heard screams and saw the fire rushed to help but were unable to rescue the children as the flames had already engulfed the entire house.

The suspect was later tracked down by residents who reportedly attempted to lynch her before police intervened and rescued her. She is currently being held at Ndanai Police Station.

Police processed the scene before transferring the bodies of the two to Kapkatet Mortuary pending investigations.
