Immediate former Kenya Cup side South Coast Pirates RFC have received a
major boost after securing a partnership with Give Rugby Foundation (GRF), who
will officially cover the salary of the team’s head coach.
The announcement coincided with the unveiling of Tony 'Lujesi' Khadambi
as the club’s new head coach ahead of the 2025/26 KRU Championship season.
Khadambi, a former Kenya U20 captain and seasoned player with Impala, KCB, and
Homeboyz, steps in at a crucial time as Pirates continue their restructuring
following the departure of coach Kevin Amiani.
Pirates’ secretary Chris Egesa welcomed the development, describing it
as a turning point for the coastal side.
“This partnership with Give Rugby is a timely boost for the club as we
restructure. Having coach Khadambi on board is a big statement of intent, and
we believe he has the right experience and drive to lead us back to the Kenya
Cup,” Egesa told Citizen Digital.
The club is also set to appoint a new team manager in the coming week. The role is currently being handled by Cliphod Odhiambo, who also features as a player.
With the 15s season set to kick off in November, the Pirates will now be
looking to mount a strong challenge in the Championship under the guidance of
Khadambi.
