Bungoma: Residents call for action to fix boarder road, say it's in a pathetic state

The demonstrations, which took place in Sisiria Subcounty, saw motorists and locals barricade sections of the road and light bonfires, paralyzing transport and business for hours.

Residents say the road, which connects Kenya to Uganda and other neighboring regions, has remained in disrepair for years, making travel and trade difficult. They accuse both county and national government officials of neglecting the crucial route despite repeated appeals.

Community leaders are now urging authorities to move swiftly to repair the road, warning that they may resume protests if no action is taken soon.

“We’ve suffered long enough. The potholes make it hard to transport goods, and accidents are becoming more frequent,” said one resident.

The road remains passable but in a poor state, with locals calling for immediate intervention to restore safe and efficient movement across the busy border corridor.
