Buruburu: Woman arrested smuggling bhang rolls inside loaf while visiting boyfriend in custody

Bernice Achieng’ arrived at the Buruburu Police Station with an unsealed loaf of bread, raising suspicions among officers on duty.

A further search led to the discovery of five rolls of bhang and a matchbox buried inside the loaf and seven more rolls were hidden inside her jacket's pocket.

Achieng' will join his lover in custody with the exhibits secured and awaiting arraignment.

This comes days after a similar smuggle tactic was reported in Ruai as an 18-year-old woman allegedly attempted to smuggle escape tools to three remanded suspects at the Ruai Police Station.

Christine Njoki Gitau walked into the station requesting to see three of her friends who had been arrested over robbery with violence and gang rape allegations. 

A routine search of the food she carried, however, uncovered a pair of pliers and a shear buried beneath the rice, tools police believe were meant to help the suspects break free from custody.

Authorities now remain alert on similar visits to prevent illegal smuggling of contraband items to detained suspects.
