Juma, 56, who is survived by 17 children and two wives had his remains lowered to its final resting place at 4:20pm on Saturday at his Ebuyenjere village, Mumias West Constituency in Kakamega County.
The ceremony was attended by hundreds of football enthusiasts as well as politicians led by Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya.
The
family, which expressed fear of being attacked by Juma’s killers said they are
not interested in staying on the land anymore calling upon Governor Wycliffe Ambetsa
Oparanya to settle them elsewhere, far away for their safety.
"We
don't want this land, our lives are much more important than school fees, we know
the killers of our father,” Brian Juma, son of the late Juma, said.
Governor
Oparanya promised to look into the matter.
"I
have sat down with the wives of Juma in my office and what they told me I don't
want to put it to you openly. However we have heard them, " Oparanya said.
Oparanya
also condemned Juma’s killers pointing fingers to security forces for sleeping
on the job as far as investigations is concerned.
"The family and people here are saying they know who killed Juma. We are being told that investigations are going on. What type of investigation is that?" he wondered.
