The government has been urged to compensate victims of the Mpeketoni attack that killed 68 people last year.

Lamu County Deputy Governor Eric Mugo said that the budget allocated to Lamu County is not enough to cover the compensation of the attack victims as well as carry out development projects.

“Currently, Lamu is among the counties that receive the least amount of money in the county allocations and it is difficult to implement development projects and also compensate victims of Mpeketoni attack,” he said.

“The government and other non-profit organisations had promised to help the victims get back to their feet by supporting them and building houses for those whose houses were torched in the attacks,” he said.
