Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) retrieved the Ceska pistol on Tuesday morning following an intelligence-led operation at the Naivas Supermarket located at Development House along Moi Avenue.
The firearm was found hidden inside a Carrefour-branded carrier bag at the supermarket's luggage holding area.
To conceal the weapon, the handler wrapped it in two additional red and blue carrier bags and stuffed it among the fruits.
A preliminary inspection by Crime Scene Investigators (CSI) confirmed the pistol was intact inside its holster, the magazine was loaded with 13 rounds of 9mm ammunition and two rounds of ammunition were missing from the 15 originally reported.
The recovery ends a week-long search that began on May 25, 2026. Sergeant Amos Kimathi, an Administration Police officer attached to the elite Security of Government Buildings (SGB) VIP Unit, reported losing the weapon at a barber shop.
The officer told police the firearm went missing while he was visiting the Kingsway Barber Shop and Spa along Mukhtar Daddah Street in the Nairobi Central Business District (CBD).
CCTV footage retrieved from the supermarket showed a masked suspect abandoning the weapon. On May 28, 2026, at approximately 1:37 PM, the unidentified individual walked into the outlet, left the bag at the luggage station, and exited unnoticed.
The scene was processed, and the firearm is in safe custody for ballistic testing. DCI Central offices are currently leading the ongoing investigations to identify and arrest the suspect.
