The government has imposed a 90-day dusk-to-dawn curfew in Mt. Elgon following a series of deadly attacks in the region.
Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’i gave the order on Tuesday during a meeting with security teams and community leaders at Kipsigon, Cheptais sub-county to address issues of insecurity.
Matiang’i was flanked by Devolution CS Eugene Wamalwa and their Lands counterpart Farida Karoney. He declared that the government would firmly deal with all criminals in the region.
Speaking during the meeting, Mr. Wamalwa said that his ministry, in conjunction with the Department of Special Programs, had brought foodstuff to assist the families affected by the recent surge in insecurity in the area.
Ms. Farida, on her part, ordered the locals staying in public utility land to vacate with immediate effect.
