UoN Dynamites head coach Juma Kent is adamant that his side has improved as they look for their second and third wins in the Kenya National Basketball women’s premier league this weekend.

Dynamites will be playing Eldonets on Saturday before facing Eagle Wings on Sunday at Nyayo Gymnasium, Nairobi and Kent says with the early indications of a tough season ahead there is no margin of error.

The varsity side started their campaign on a wrong footing last weekend going down 64-30 against reigning champions Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) before they bounced back to hammer Storms 31-16.

“I haven’t seen Eldonets play this year, it’s their first time in the premier league and they are young so we need to contain them and stop their runs.

“For Eagle Wings I haven’t seen them playing either this season but from the results I have seen, they are mature but slow which we need to contain. If I get two wins I will be glad because it will boost us in chances of being in a better position in the playoffs,” he said.

Dynamites have played two games, winning one and losing one and have three points lying position ten. Eldonets have played three games, winning one and losing two and have four points in position nine while Eagle Wings have also played a similar number of matches, winning one, losing two and having four points.

Eldonets have been out of action since July 2 when they defeated Kisumu Lady Bucks 60-43 in Eldoret after losing their first two matches against Africa Nazarene University (ANU) and JKUAT.

Elsewhere, after missing in action for three consecutive weekends ANU will be returning to the court this weekend against Strathmore Swords and head coach Michael Oluoch says he expects a tough encounter.

“Strathmore are running a lot, so we really need to balance the court, cut off their breaks and also box out because of their shooting.

“It’s going to be a tough game because it’s a team that has balanced results whenever we meet. It's going to be an interesting game for us as you can see both teams are young and energetic,” said Oluoch.

ANU are currently seventh on the log with four points having played three games, winning one against Eldonets and losing two against giants KPA and Equity.

On their side Strathmore Swords have played four matches winning one against JKUAT and losing the other three against favourites KPA, Equity and Zetech.

Strathmore head coach Ronnie Owino says it will be a difficult match.

"ANU is a hardworking team who never give up. They are difficult opponents but we have prepared for the game accordingly," Owino said.
