The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has arrested 3 officials from the Ministry of Labour based at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) for allegedly extorting agents facilitating migrant workers travelling to the Middle East.

According to the EACC, the Commission conducted an operation on November 30, in collaboration with one of the agents who had 78 migrant workers travelling to the Middle East.

The agent met the three Labour Officers at JKIA, who were manning the booth.

After setting out the total amount, the officers are said to have demanded and received Ksh.34,000.

The Commission's investigators arrested the suspects and recovered the money from them.

The three suspects, Benson Ouma Okello, Esther Njoki Gakuru, and Denis Marias, were taken to the Integrity Centre for processing a statement and recording, and were released on a cash bail of Ksh. 50,000 each, pending completion of the investigation.

This followed a report to the EACC alleging that the Labour Officials at JKIA receive bribes for each migrant worker travelling to the Middle East.
