The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has intensified its anti-graft campaign by launching corruption prevention committees in Homa Bay County.
The committees, established in partnership with the county government,
are expected to promote ethical conduct and strengthen accountability systems
within public institutions at the devolved level.
Homa Bay now joins 13 other counties that have already
operationalised the committees, including Baringo County, Embu County, Kilifi
County and Kwale County.
Speaking during the launch at the Homa Bay County
headquarters on Thursday, EACC Commissioner Cecilia Mutuku said the committees
will provide a framework for embedding integrity and corruption prevention
mechanisms within county operations.
“A firm commitment to combating corruption will enhance
public trust, accountability, and sustainable development for the people of
Homa Bay County,” she said, urging county leadership to establish and operationalise the County Apex Corruption Prevention Committee fully.
Governor Gladys Wanga, on her part, reaffirmed the
county’s commitment to the initiative, saying the committees will strengthen
transparency and accountability in the management of public resources for the benefit
of residents.
The programme is supported under the EACC–GIZ Good
Governance initiative, with the implementing partner Deutsche Gesellschaft für
Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) pledging continued collaboration with
county governments to enhance service delivery.
Meanwhile, the Commission has also warned of persistent
corruption risks in the management of devolved funds, including the National
Government Constituencies Development Fund (NG-CDF).
