The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) have renewed their commitment to strengthening collaboration in the investigation and prosecution of corruption and money laundering cases.
The pledge follows a high-level
strategic meeting held at the Kenya School of Government, bringing together the
leadership of both institutions to review progress in their partnership and
explore ways of enhancing coordination in the fight against graft.
The meeting was attended by EACC
Chairperson Dr. David Oginde, Chief Executive Officer Abdi Mohamud, Commissioners,
Director of Public Prosecutions Renson Ingonga and senior officials from the
two agencies.
Speaking during the meeting, Dr.
Oginde described corruption as one of Kenya's greatest development challenges,
saying it continues to erode public trust, weaken institutions and undermine
service delivery.
He stressed that closer
collaboration between investigators and prosecutors is essential to improving
the effectiveness of anti-corruption efforts and securing successful
prosecutions.
EACC CEO Abdi Mohamud said
stronger cooperation among justice sector institutions is both a constitutional
requirement and a key pillar in delivering meaningful results in the fight
against corruption.
He noted that Kenyans are less
concerned with the institutional distinction between investigators and
prosecutors and are instead focused on seeing justice served through successful
investigations, prosecutions and the recovery of assets acquired through
corruption.
DPP Ingonga said the engagement
provided an opportunity for both institutions to improve the quality of
investigations and prosecutions, adding that the EACC and ODPP share a common
responsibility to safeguard public resources, protect the public interest and
uphold the rule of law.
During the meeting, the two
agencies reviewed existing areas of cooperation, identified challenges
affecting the handling of corruption and money laundering cases, and agreed on
measures to strengthen institutional coordination.
Among the resolutions reached
were the rollout of joint capacity-building programmes for investigators and
prosecutors, enhanced collaboration in case review processes, and a renewed
focus on pursuing high-impact corruption and money laundering cases.
The EACC and the ODPP concluded the meeting by reaffirming
their commitment to deepening inter-agency collaboration, saying closer
coordination is crucial to strengthening accountability, protecting public
resources and improving the administration of justice.
