More than 5,000 stakeholders from across the packaging, printing, plastics, and processing value chain are expected to converge in Nairobi for the 10th edition of Propak East Africa, a leading regional platform for industrial innovation and manufacturing development.
The event set for March 3–5, 2026, brings together
manufacturers, technology providers, suppliers, policymakers, investors, and
innovators, reflecting the sector’s growing role in East Africa’s industrial
landscape.
Africa’s packaging market is entering a period of accelerated growth, projected to rise from around USD 45.15 billion in 2025 to USD 58.46 billion by 2031, at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 4.4 percent.
Growth is being driven by urbanisation, expanding fast-moving consumer
goods (FMCG) markets, and the rise of e-commerce. Within this context, East
Africa is emerging as a dynamic hub, with Kenya’s packaging market forecast to
grow at 5.8–5.9 per cent CAGR, underpinned by its position as a regional
commercial and logistics centre.
Organised by Montgomery Group, Propak East Africa has become
a key meeting point where regional manufacturers connect with global technology
providers, supporting localisation, supply chain strengthening, and investment
opportunities. The increasing presence of international machinery suppliers and
technology providers reflects confidence in East Africa not only as a consumer
market but also as a production and investment destination.
This year, the exhibition will highlight sustainability,
regulatory compliance, and innovation, reflecting the growing importance of
packaging in consumer trust, product safety, and regional trade, particularly
as East Africa deepens integration under the African Continental Free Trade
Area (AfCFTA).
Angela Kinyua, Managing Director of Montgomery Group East
Africa, said:
“The packaging industry in East Africa is evolving rapidly,
driven by changing consumer expectations, sustainability requirements, and
regulatory developments. Propak East Africa provides a platform to explore new
technologies and build partnerships that support long-term industry growth.”
The 2026 edition will feature live technology
demonstrations, new product launches, and packaging design innovations,
including first-of-their-kind solutions for the African market such as 100%
compostable packaging, recyclable mono-layer packaging, and advanced digital
embellishment systems.
The conference programme features high-level speakers, including Regina Ombam, Principal Secretary for Trade at Kenya’s Ministry of Investment, Trade, and Industry, and Ambassador Ahmed Alex Omah, President of the World Packaging Organisation, underscoring the event’s role in bridging industry and
policy.
The three-day programme begins with the Eastern African Packaging Summit, focusing on sustainability, compliance, and regional trade opportunities. Day two features a Printing Masterclass by Printing SA covering hybrid inkjet printing, expanded colour workflows, and AI-enabled design technologies. The final day highlights food and beverage processing, including discussions on dairy innovation, natural ingredients, beverage authenticity, and SME financing.
