The Education ministry is set to launch a national system to monitor schools resources and enrolled students across the country.

Dubbed NEMIS, an acroynm for National Education Management System, the program is set to be launched next month, September 28, and is meant to reduce bureaucratic procedures in schools.

Speaking on Friday, August 18 at the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development, Education Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i announced the planned launched, adding that students’ will be entered into the system from September 5 in a bid to promote accountability.

Dr Matiang’i warned school heads to they adopt the system and get an access code or risk closure.

The Education boss said the system will help monitor all financial details in all schools making sure all funds are accounted for and with all students being issued with a universal personal Identity number that they will use all through their education life.

The ministry requires all schools, private and public, to have codes from the system for their identification failure to which the they will be closed down and students redistributed in coded schools.
