Eight killed in crash on Mai Mahiu-Narok road after truck loses control

A tragic road crash on the Mai Mahiu–Narok road has claimed eight lives in a devastating head-on collision at Nairegia area in Narok East sub-county.

The accident, which occurred at around 5:30pm on Saturday, involved a Mercedes Axor truck and a Toyota Voxy travelling in opposite directions.

According to a police report filed at Ntulele Police Station, the truck, which was heading towards Mai Mahiu from Narok, lost control before veering into the path of the oncoming Voxy, which was headed towards Narok.

The two vehicles collided head-on on impact.

The driver of the Voxy and all seven passengers on board, three men and four women, died at the scene due to the severity of the crash.

The driver of the truck sustained serious injuries and was rushed to Narok Teaching and Referral Hospital, where he is receiving treatment.

The bodies of the deceased have been moved to the same hospital’s mortuary, where they are awaiting identification and postmortem.

Police said efforts are underway to clear the wreckage and tow the vehicles from the scene as investigations into the cause of the accident continue.
