Eight people killed, 7 injured after matatu collides with bus on Nairobi-Mombasa highway

At least eight people were killed and seven others critically injured following a fatal road
traffic accident involving a bus and a matatu along Nairobi-Mombasa highway at Katumani.
The Friday night crash
prompted a swift response from emergency teams drawn from Muumandu and Kyumbi,
who were dispatched to the scene to carry out rescue and evacuation operations.
Authorities
confirmed that six passengers died on the spot due to the impact of the
collision. Two others succumbed to their injuries later on Saturday while receiving treatment.
Seven other
victims sustained critical injuries and were rushed to Machakos Level 5
Hospital, where they are currently receiving specialised medical care.
Rescue operations
at the scene have since been completed, with police and other relevant agencies
now focusing on traffic management and investigations to establish the cause of
the accident.
Traffic flow along
the busy highway was temporarily disrupted as emergency crews worked to clear
the wreckage.
Authorities
extended their condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in the
crash and wished a speedy recovery to the injured.
