Thirdway Alliance party leader, Ekuru Aukot, has termed Kenya’s police deployment to Haiti a failure, accusing the government of misusing the National Police Service and violating the Constitution.

Speaking on Citizen TV DayBreak on Thursday, Aukot said gangs remain active in Haiti, insisting the mission did not achieve its intended objective.

“The mission is a failed one. Gangs are still operating in Haiti,” he said.

Aukot, who previously moved to court to challenge the deployment, maintained that the government acted outside the law, citing a High Court ruling by John Mativo, which found the initial plan unconstitutional.

“We violated our own Constitution. We misused our National Police Service against the law,” he stated.

He further argued that the request for intervention from Haiti was not legitimate, claiming it did not originate from a duly elected authority.

“Only a duly elected president of Haiti can make that request, not a prime minister who was not properly in office,” he added.

The deployment of Kenyan police officers to Haiti has been a subject of legal and political debate, with the government defending the move as part of a multinational effort to restore order in the gang-ravaged Caribbean nation.

On Tuesday, the second contingent of police deployed to Haiti returned home in jubilation.

Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo welcomed the troops alongside other security officials, lauding the forces for their dedicated sacrifice and unwavering commitment to duty.

"In a foreign land, under difficult and often dangerous conditions, alongside the Haitian National Police, they upheld the highest standards of professionalism, discipline and courage, flying the Kenyan flag with distinction," he said.

The Kenya-led peacekeeping mission began in 2024 after approval by the United Nations Security Council. Kenyan forces were supported by contingents from Guatemala, El Salvador, Jamaica, the Bahamas, and Canada.
