The incident, which has left the community reeling, defies tradition and has sparked outrage among elders and locals alike.
Led by Nyumba Kumi chair David Rono, elders hastily convened a meeting to address the situation, expressing deep concern over the unorthodox actions taken by the two men.
Rono, speaking on behalf of the elders, condemned the exchange as a violation of societal norms, unprecedented not only in Kipsapta but also unheard of within the Kalenjin community at large.
The saga began with Robert Kiruo, one of the men involved, whose wife abandoned him, leaving behind their two young daughters.
Despite his attempts to seek intervention from village elders over a period of five months, his efforts proved futile.
Faced with a sense of betrayal and seeking retribution, Kiruo took matters into his own hands, opting to exchange wives with the man who had allegedly taken his spouse.
"When I realized that the man had decided to take my wife, I chose to take revenge by taking his wife," Kiruo explained, shedding light on his motivations. Remarkably, the other man's wife consented to the exchange, citing mutual grievances regarding spousal infidelity.
The elders, deeply troubled by the implications of this act, have resolved to reconvene on Monday to devise a strategy to address the escalating situation.
Their primary concern is to prevent the conflict between the two families from spiraling out of control, potentially leading to chaos within the community.
Meanwhile, both wives have relocated to their respective parental homes, leaving behind their children, who now find themselves in the midst of a tumultuous and uncertain situation.
