In Kenya, where diesel-powered public service vehicles (PSVs) are the most common mode of transport, electric vehicle start-up BasiGo is at the forefront of the local e-mobility transformation.
The company founded in 2021 provides electric buses specifically for public transit. It launched its first electric bus – fully assembled from China – in 2022.
BasiGo would then assemble its first electric bus locally in 2023 and ever since, it has grown to produce a monthly average of six buses.
Citizen Digital goes inside the start-up to find out how it assembles electric buses as it aims to deliver 1,000 units in East Africa by the end of 2026.
