Tensions boiled over in the Evurore Ward by-election on Thursday after the chief agent for one of the candidates was brutally attacked by suspected goons at a polling station.

The incident occurred at the Njarage Primary School polling station, throwing the electoral process into chaos and raising serious concerns about voter intimidation.

Kelvin Mwenda, the chief agent for Democratic Party (DP) candidate Albert Kigoro, was assaulted while carrying out his official duties.

According to Mwenda, he was actively monitoring the voting process when a group of assailants confronted him.

The attack, he stated, unfolded amidst heightened political activity in the area, creating an atmosphere of fear among voters and party supporters who had turned out to cast their ballots.

In the ensuing melee, Mwenda reported that a vehicle belonging to candidate Kigoro, which he was using, was also vandalized.

He described the attack as a clear act of intimidation aimed at frustrating his legally mandated oversight role and scaring voters away from the polling station.

Mwenda maintained that his presence was purely to ensure a transparent process as provided for under electoral laws.

He has since reported the matter to the Ishiara Police Station, further calling on security agencies to conduct a thorough investigation and ensure the perpetrators are brought to justice.
