Ex-Senator Muthama pushes for rejection of BBI

Former Machakos Senator Johnstone Muthama has asked the Kamba community to reject the Bridging Bridges Initiative (BBI) saying it has divided Kenyans.

Muthama was speaking at Kambu during the burial of former Matiliku Boys Principal and father-in-law to KMTC chairperson Prof Philip Kaloki.

Muthama said the proposed report had been hijacked by power brokers and had divided Kenyans along their ethnic groupings.

His sentiments were echoed by former Kibwezi MP Kalembe Ndile who blamed the government for cracking down on BBI critics.

Ndile said there should be room for critics if the whole process is genuine about uniting the country.

Former Mbooni MP Michael Kispi also accused some politicians of using the BBI to revive their hitherto dead careers ahead of the 2022 General Election.

Their latest pronouncements came despite their Ukambani counterpart kalonzo musyoka urging KenyansKenyans to rally behind the proposed report, saying it will change Kenya’s trajectory, for good.

Kalonzo was speaking at the Mama Ngina Waterfront in Mombasa during the BBI popularization rally in the region.

“We are One People, One Kenya. The Building Bridges Initiative should be a vehicle to unite our rich diversity as a country,” He said.

At the same time, Kalonzo said he was happy that the current electoral body was set to go home in line with the BBI recommendations.

“I’m happy Chebukati and his team would go home. Let’s give them a round of applause as we bid them farewell.”

The report proposes to remove all the current commissioners from the office and establish a new team ahead of the 2022 polls.
