Trans Nzoia Falcons’ lethal striker Violet Wanyonyi is in
the race to complete her move to Club Municipal de Laayoune, a football club in
the Morocco Women Premier League.
Wanyonyi who had a one month stint with the side in early March 2022 for trials, satisfied the Club bosses who now want to sign her on a permanent deal which is expected to be completed this week.
Confirming the development, Trans Nzoia Falcons head coach Justin Okiring said they are in contact with the club hierarchy who said they want to seal the deal by this week so as she can start playing for them from next week.
Okiring who spoke exclusively to Citizen Digital, said Wanyonyi breakthrough arrived in the inaugural Caf Women Champions League held in Cairo, Egypt in November 2021 whereby she was among the best for the CECAFA representatives Vihiga Queens.
“We are expecting to seal the deal with Municipal de Laayoune this week and officially release the player. We have been in talks for long with the team since Wanyonyi joined their camp for trials in March and they were very impressed by her and requested to sign her permanently.
“I am very happy for the move because it will open chances for others in the team. Also the rest of the players will work hard for a similar chance or maybe in Europe,” noted Okiring.
The explosive winger who was loaned to Vihiga last season managed four goals in the inaugural Cecafa Club Champions League qualifiers held in Nairobi in September 2021.
The striker scored one of the two goals that Vihiga managed in Egypt as they exited the Women Champions League at the group stage and also scored against Morocco's ASFAR in Queens' 2-0 win, lost 1-0 to Mamelodi Sundown’s of South Africa before the humiliating 4-0 defeat to Nigeria's Rivers Angels.
Wanyonyi who emerged from Misemwa Primary School in Bungoma and later joined Bishop Njenga Girls in Lugari, couldn’t hide her joy for the Golden Opportunity.
“For Sure I am very much happy for the move and it was something I prayed for since I started my football Career. I can’t wait for the deal to materialize and my mind for now has been set for the Moroccan Women Premier League next season scheduled to kick off in August after the cub managed second position last season.
“The coaches told me that there is a pre-season tournament which is scheduled to kick off next week and they want me in the cub as early as possible so that I can feature.”
Wanyonyi who missed the first leg round of the league was lethal for Trans Nzoia Falcons as she assisted them to finish in the seventh position with 30 points, 30 behind Vihiga Queens who were crowned the champions.
