Family mourns 17-year-old Brian Ndung'u shot dead during Gen Z protests in Olkalou

The family of 17-year-old Brian Ndung'u Wanjiru who was shot dead in Olkalou, Nyandarua County during anti-government demonstrations across the country has mourned his death, remembering him as a hardworking and humble young man.

Brian, the fourth-born in a family of five, completed his Form Four studies in 2023. After finishing school, he pursued a career in photography and tattooing in Olkalou town.

Speaking from their home in Mirangine, Brian's mother, Elizabeth Wanjiru, shared the heartbreaking moment she learned of her son's death. "I found out through my daughter, who had seen photos of Brian circulating on social media while I was in Narok," Wanjiru explained.

The following day, Elizabeth visited the JM Kariuki Hospital morgue in Olkalou, where she confirmed the tragic news. "When I viewed his body, I was devastated to see that his jaw had been shattered," she said, her voice filled with grief.

Brian's sister, Mary Wangari, spoke of the family's deep sorrow, noting that they had lost a young man with a promising future. "He was hardworking, humble, and had so much potential," she said. "We have lost someone special."

The family is now calling on investigative authorities to ensure justice is served. "We want to know the truth and for justice to be done," Mary added.
