The announcement signals a major boost for the rapidly growing hybrid sport, which blends esports gameplay with real-world combat. The competition, scheduled for August 7–8 at the Qazaqstan Athletics Sports Complex, will feature elite mixed martial arts athletes competing for a prize pool of $500,000 (approx. KSh 65 million).
Phygital fighting stands out for its unique format, in which competitors first face off in a virtual environment before transitioning to full-contact bouts inside the cage. The concept gained significant attention during its debut at the 2025 Games of the Future in Abu Dhabi, attracting thousands of on-site fans and millions more online.
By selecting FATAL FURY, one of the most iconic franchises in fighting game history, organizers are banking on its global appeal and competitive depth to further elevate the discipline.
“This is about bringing together the best of both worlds—gaming and sport—into one unified competition,” said organizers in a statement, highlighting the role of established gaming titles in shaping the future of phygital sport.
The 2026 Games of the Future will run from July 29 to August 11, bringing together over 900 athletes from more than 50 countries across multiple disciplines.
Further details, including participating fighters and team line-ups, are expected to be released in the coming weeks as anticipation builds for one of the most innovative sporting events on the global calendar.
