Fire breaks out in building housing Nakumatt Lifestyle

A fire that broke out at a restaurant inside the building housing Nakumatt Lifestyle supermarket in Nairobi’s central business district has been brought under control.

Staff who work at the 24-hour supermarket have been evacuate and no casualties have been reported. Nakumatt supermarkets have through their Twitter handle @nakumatt confirmed that the fire affected a restaurant on the 2nd floor on the Hazina Trade Centre.

“Fire contained at restaurant on Hazina Trade Centre. All Nakumatt staff safely evacuated,” Nakumatt tweeted.

Nairobi county fire brigade personnel and other firefighters have managed to contain the fire. The Kenya Red Cross has also through its official twitter handle confirmed that the fire at a food court on the second floor has been contained.

“Fire contained and all evacuated to safety. Fire said to have started at a food court on 2nd floor,” read a tweet posted by the Kenya Red Cross team.

The extent of the damage caused by the fire is still unknown.
