But while it was happening, a lot of people online chimed in with a few questions regarding some of the activities they saw at the wedding, the people involved, the guests invited and, you know, a few other curiosities which are bound to arise around such a grand occasion.
We trawled the internet and stumbled upon a few burning questions Kenyans repeatedly asked. Sadly, we cannot find the answers at this point yet.
1. Gender Cabinet Secretary Aisha Jumwa, Why?
Kenyans online were vexed after watching a video of the Cabinet Secretary for Public Service, Affirmative Action and Gender in Kenya clothing the bride in a cash necklace which was rumoured to have been made up of Ksh.100,000 or more in minty bank notes.
While the government has been complaining of empty coffers and with many calling for austerity measures and being barely able to afford to pay salaries to public servants, Kenyans found the gesture in bad taste and utterly tone-deaf.
Some have argued that the money may not necessarily be from the public coffers and that Ms Jumwa may have simply withdrawn her own money from her personal bank account.
Still, many said that, in public service, optics is everything and this was the worst timing considering the financial circumstances the country is in.
The fact that the government is in the doldrums, financially speaking, should have cautioned the Cabinet Secretary from such a blatant display of money gifting.
2. Who, really, is The Groom, Mr Denis 'Omosh' Schweizer?
A Kenyan on Twitter @mwambilimwagodi raised the question of who, really, is the groom and why was so little known about him.
While the entire world was splashed with the colourful history of the bride (they even provided detailed booklets about Akothee at the wedding), very little had been made public about her husband, Denis 'Omosh'.
All people know is that he is a Swiss national and a resident of the swanky Swiss City Bern. That's really all there is to know.
Akothee hasn't made an effort to demystify her man and no one, not even Kenyans on Twitter has gotten to the bottom of who is Denis 'Omosh' Schweizer, where has he schooled? What did he pursue in university? What does he do? Who are his family? Has he been married before? Does he have kids?
Right now, Kenyans on Twitter are still trying to piece up his life and attempt to fix up the jigsaw puzzle that is Mr Omosh. But at least, he's not such a shabby dancer.
3. Mungai Eve, Why?
While almost all the women pulled up in flowing gowns, bouncy wigs and ankle-length dresses, YouTuber Mungai Eve shocked many even she decided to show up in a little pink dress which left very little to the imagination.
Donning a chunky pale wig and a black hat, Mungai disturbed the internet with a little dress which many described as 'tacky' and 'disrespectful'.
The tiny number went way up Mungai's thighs and uncomfortably hugged her from all sides making her stick out at the garden as someone who either didn't get the memo or chose to brazenly ignore the etiquette and ruffle a few feathers.
4. Photographers, Why?
Despite the fact that there was a ban on photography at the wedding, a ban which the MC repeatedly announced to the guests, somehow, some people still managed to steal a couple of photos and ruin the surprise that, maybe, the couple had hoped for a later date.
At such a society wedding, as it has happened across the world, guests are expected to be extremely-refined individuals who adhere to the house rules and put their phones away.
But in this case, everyone seemed to have opened their vlogging portal with all manner of cameras transmitting live images on the Internet as it happened.
It did not matter whether you had an iPhone 14 or a creaky 2000s-era gadget. Everyone was the paparazzi. Some photos, evidently, were also not too flattering to a bride intent on looking as ravishing as possible on her big day.
Now, they're being used as memes on Twitter. Maybe we need a few lessons from Beyonce on what a no-photo event really looks like.
Or, maybe, next time, guests need to sign a non-disclosure agreement before accessing such a high-profile event.
5. Was that a Wedding or an Influencers Event?
While many have marvelled at Akothee's Midas touch, many have also pooh-pooed the guest list which they found littered with big names from Instagram and Tiktok and thus, more of an influencers gathering than a wedding.
Whilst big global stars have also invited their contemporaries for their nuptials, some Kenyans felt that Akothee went a little too far in stuffing the guest list with every big name on Kenyan YouTube, Instagram and Tiktok.
Everywhere you looked, an influencer was walking up and down the dome, cameras high as they recorded themselves and went LIVE on social media.
YouTuber Kabi wa Jesus and his wife also played a major role in some of the most solemn parts of the ceremony as did other stars who even made up the bridesmaids.
