Five fishermen die after boat capsizes in Lake Victoria

Five fishermen died on Sunday evening after their boat capsized on Lake Victoria near the Dho-Goye area in Usigu Sub-County.
According to Usenge Beach Management Unit (BMU) chairman John Ochieng’, the boat was carrying seven fishermen when strong winds struck, causing it to overturn.
Five of the fishermen drowned, while one survivor managed to cling to the overturned vessel until fellow fishermen arrived and rescued him.
Mr. Ochieng’ confirmed that two bodies have so far been recovered and taken to the Got Agulu Sub-County Hospital mortuary.
Search and rescue teams are continuing to comb the waters in an effort to retrieve the remaining bodies.
