The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has announced
disciplinary actions against three match officials following the National
Referees Committee’s review of the Kenyan Premier League (KPL) Match No. 68
between Kakamega Homeboyz FC and Murang’a Seal FC.
Second Assistant Referee Jackson Opiayo has been removed
from KPL duties for three rounds and reassigned to the National Super League.
The Committee found that his incorrect positioning led to a
wrong offside call that denied the attacking team a clear scoring opportunity.
His performance in the NSL will be monitored before any
reinstatement to the top tier.
Referee David Serem has received an official warning for
awarding a corner kick without clear justification, a decision not supported by
match footage.
His explanation during the review was also deemed
unsatisfactory.
First Assistant Referee Gladys Kamuren has likewise been
issued an official warning over the same incident. Despite being best placed to
determine whether the ball had gone out of play, her communication and signaling
were found to be insufficient.
FKF says the rulings reflect its commitment to improving the quality, consistency and integrity of officiating across all FKF-managed competitions through continuous training, evaluation and corrective action.
