Former Laikipia Governor Joshua Irungu has joined the United Democratic Alliance (UDA).

He was officially welcomed into the political outfit on Tuesday by Deputy President William Ruto at his official Karen residence.

In 2013, Irungu was elected, under a TNA ticket, as Laikipia's first governor but failed to defend his seat in the 2017 elections, eventually losing out to incumbent governor Ndiritu Muriithi who is also seeking a second term in office at the August polls.

Muriithi on the other hand was elected under a PNU ticket and he has recently become an avid supporter of the Azimio la Umoja movement.

According to DP Ruto, Irungu is working closely with his rival Koinange Wahome to see how they can work together to topple Muriithi at the polls.

DP Ruto similarly welcomed political hopefuls Joseph Gitari (Kirinyaga Central), John Ololtuaa (Kilgoris Constituency), and Josephine Koisabba (Narok County Woman Representative) to his political outfit.
