Gor Mahia aim for summit in clash against Sharks

Gor Mahia will seek to seize control of the Football Kenya Federation Premier League title race today when they take bottom-placed Kariobangi Sharks at Kasarani Stadium from 4pm.
The match offers K’Ogalo an immediate chance to make a
powerful statement and climb to the pinnacle of the standings.
Currently fourth with 23 points, a victory would propel the
record champions to the top of the table, applying intense pressure on their
rivals.
For the Sharks, anchored at the foot of the table with a
mere 12 points, the encounter is a desperate battle for survival, with another
defeat threatening to deepen their relegation crisis.
The historical record heavily favours Gor Mahia. In 17
previous league meetings, K’Ogalo have dominated with 12 victories, three draws
and only two losses, scoring 29 goals against 14 from Sharks.
However, Gor Mahia will face this test for the first time
without midfielder Austin Odhiambo, who recently completed a transfer to a
Lebanese club.
All eyes will be on events unfolding at Kasarani to see if
Gor Mahia can capitalise on their historical superiority and Sharks’ poor form
to launch themselves into the driver’s seat of the championship contest, or if
the Sharks can stage a monumental upset to revive their faltering season.
