Sports Ministry Principal
Secretary Eng. Peter Tum has
reiterated the government's intention to tap, nurture and develop talent in
Kenya.
Tum spoke in Nairobi when NBA
Africa in conjunction with the French Development Agency unveiled two
refurbished outdoor basketball courts at the Kenya Academy of Sports at
Kasarani, Nairobi.
The PS noted that the launch of the
basketball courts was one of the government initiatives to develop sports at
the grassroots level.
“For the basketball
fraternity that has been involved in making sure this initiative materializes,
we really thank you because you have done quite well. When you look at this
court courtesy of the effort you have put in here, you can only imagine how
these young people will benefit from this venture,” said Tum.
The French ambassador to
Kenya, Arnaud Suquet, speaking in
Swahili, said he is looking forward to the success of the program, which has also been
initiated in other African countries such as Nigeria and Morocco.
“I hope that our young
people will try to improve their basketball skills. I pray that we continue to
work together and strengthen the values of equality in sports,” said Amb. Arnaud.
The facility aims to tap
and grow basketball talents in the country.
