Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa has called for the
fast-tracking of construction works at Bukhungu Stadium, noting that the facility
is now slightly over 50 percent complete and remains on course for completion
by the end of the year.
Barasa, who inspected the ongoing works, confirmed that the
county government has adopted an accelerated programme to ensure the project
meets its revised timeline.
The governor expressed confidence that once complete, the
facility — one of the venues under consideration for the 2027 Africa Cup of
Nations, which Kenya will co-host alongside Uganda and Tanzania — will meet the
required standards.
The construction of Bukhungu Stadium is a joint initiative
between the County Government of Kakamega and the National Government through
the Ministry of Sports.
