According to the DCI, the suspect identified as Maroa Sammy Maroa was apprehended on Wednesday at the Ngoigwa area within Thika West Sub-county following intelligence-led investigations.
The DCI said the arrest was prompted by the suspect’s latest attempt to deliver a forged letter, allegedly sanctioned by a senior government official, to the Chief Executive Officer of the National Police Service Commission. The letter reportedly forwarded a list of purported “state-recommended candidates” for ongoing police recruitment.
Investigators also established that the officer, who is a civil servant employed as an economist at the State Department for Cabinet Affairs, is currently on suspension linked to an earlier forgery case filed before the Kahawa Law Courts. In that matter, he is accused of forging a letter to promote himself to the rank of Director and transfer himself to the State Department for Housing.
Detectives revealed that the suspect had attempted to evade arrest by switching off his known mobile numbers and going into hiding.
"Realising detectives were closing in, he went dark, switching off all his known numbers, envisaging he had slipped off the radar. But our crime busters, unamused and undeterred, deployed meticulous intelligence leads, thereby managing to smoke him out of his hideout," said the DCI.
The suspect is expected to face charges related to forgery, uttering false documents, and abuse of public office.
