Maina highlighted reports that some regions are being prioritised over others in the issuance of IDs, which she described as a fundamental right that cannot be denied or made inaccessible.
“An ID is a fundamental right; it cannot be derogated. Ensure that these IDs are issued. If you fail, we will come to Nairobi ourselves to deliver them to the people,” she said, during the burial of former Senator Daniel Karaba in Kirinyaga on Wednesday.
Her remarks come as the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) intensifies efforts to enlist at least 6.5 million new voters ahead of the 2027 General Election. With 17 months to go, the commission has launched an enhanced voter registration exercise aimed at boosting the total number of registered voters from 22,120,458 in 2022 to an estimated 28,497,075 in 2027.
The IEBC is urging Kenyans across the country to participate in the registration exercise, emphasising that timely registration is crucial to ensure full participation in the upcoming elections.
Maina also used the platform to urge political leaders to put aside personal differences and organise the Mt Kenya region ahead of the August 2027 polls. She called on leaders to unite in steering the region away from corrupt leadership and mismanagement of public funds.
“Take the bull by the horns; the Mountain is counting on you. Sit, talk, and make sure we move together on this journey to achieve our common goals,” she said.
