Police have arrested a Grade 9 student as the prime suspect in
the murders of two young girls aged 4 and 5 in Nkura Village, Kisii South.
Annah Bahati and Stacy Nyanchama disappeared while playing on
Tuesday evening, only for their bodies to be discovered hours later in a banana
plantation.
Juliet Wache, Annah’s mother, said: “Walikuwa kwa nyumba alafu
wakatoka wakasema wanaenda kucheza...ilifika 6:30pm tukaanza kuwatafuta lakini
hatukuwaona....”
Catherine Kemuma, a family member,
stated: “Sasa aunty akakuja kuniuliza tumewaona watoto, tukatafuta na tukaenda
kupiga report, sasa tukiwa station ndio tukaitwa watoto wamepatikana kwa gunia,
na slippers zilikuwa kwa choo.”
Preliminary investigations point
to a grim ordeal. It is suspected that the two minors were abducted, defiled,
and poisoned before their bodies were abandoned in the dark at the crime
scene.
Faith Ondimu, Stacy’s mother,
noted: “Tukitafuta watoto roho yangu ilikuwa inakataa wako tu hapo kwa hiyo
boma, kidogo nikasikia watu wanapiga nduru...”
Even as their families mourn the
brutal killings, the wheels of justice are already in motion. Police officers
from Suneka Police Station have arrested a Grade 9 student who is the prime
suspect in the double murder.
Cyprian Geno, a family member of
Annah Bahati, said: “Mimi ndio niliwapata, mtoto mmoja alikuwa kando na yule
mwengine alikuwa amelala hapo lifeless, it was very painful.”
The family has demanded swift
action and justice. The bodies of the two minors have been moved to the Kisii
Teaching and Referral Hospital Mortuary for a post-mortem exercise, even as
police probe the motive behind the killing and hunt for accomplices, if any.
