A primary school head teacher accused of killing a retired teacher and his wife over a land dispute in Wii Kawiti village in Rangwe, Homa Bay County, has been arrested.
Peter Angon’g, the head teacher of Onyege Comprehensive
School in Kagan Ward, was arrested after surrendering to police at Rangwe
Police Station.
The head teacher is accused of murdering Joseph Ooko Owuoth,
a retired teacher, and his wife, Pamela Akeyo Ooko, following a land dispute on
Sunday evening.
Police say Angon’g went into hiding after allegedly
collaborating with an accomplice to kill the couple, prompting officers to
launch a manhunt.
However, the suspect resurfaced on Tuesday and surrendered
to police in the company of his lawyer.
Rangwe Sub-county Police Commander Magdalene Chebet said the
head teacher was arrested immediately after presenting himself at the station.
Chebet added that officers from the Directorate of Criminal
Investigations are in the process of taking him to court to seek orders
allowing them to detain the suspect for more days as investigations continue.
