Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has made good his pledge to remain in Mbeere North until the close of the by-election period on 28 November, intensifying last-minute preparations as the constituency heads to the polls.

While his main competitor, impeached former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, wrapped up his campaign activities a day before the official deadline, Kindiki maintained a high-energy presence on the trail to the very end.

On Monday he joined UDA candidate Leo Wamuthende for final submissions in Karerema and Gitiburi, drawing sizeable crowds in the closing hours of the campaign period.

On Tuesday the Deputy President shifted his operations to Siakago and Kanyuambora, where he held a series of closed-door meetings from as early as 7 a.m.

Sources within his team said the sessions focused on coordinating UDA polling-station agents, refining get-out-the-vote strategies, and ensuring a strong turnout in Thursday’s closely watched by-election.

A seasoned legal scholar, Kindiki is said to have opted for discreet engagements rather than public gatherings to avoid contravening electoral laws that prohibit campaign activities once the official period has lapsed.

He briefly broke for a late lunch before resuming the pre-poll preparations.

Addressing residents earlier, Kindiki assured all 55,124 registered voters in Mbeere North that the government had put in place heightened security measures to guarantee a peaceful voting environment.

“The government has beefed up security to ensure Thursday’s by-election is conducted in a calm, orderly atmosphere, free from intimidation or violence,” he said. “Every eligible voter will have the opportunity to exercise their democratic right.”
