Homa Bay Deputy Governor Joseph Oyugi Magwanga has officially declared his intention to contest for the Homa Bay gubernatorial seat in the 2027 General Election.

Magwanga says he is ready to challenge his boss, Governor Gladys Wanga, in the 2027 general election.

During the 2022 general election, Magwanga and Governor Wanga were elected on a joint ODM ticket.

However, the two have since had a strained relationship, especially afterthe  Kasipul parliamentary by-election in November 2025, where the DG supported independent candidate Phillip Aroko against her boss, who supported the current Kasipul Mp Boyd Were.

Speaking to the press in East Kamagak Ward, Kasipul Constituency, Magwanga said he has been frustrated in his office, limiting his ability to serve the people of Homa Bay County as the DG.

Magwanga now says he is prepared to offer alternative leadership, promising to prioritize service delivery if elected in 2027.

The seasoned politician says he has the experience to take the county to the next level, adding that no one will block him in his quest to be the next governor of Homa Bay County.
